The Diablo 2 Ladder Reset in 2018: A New Era of ARPGs

As the year 2018 draws to a close, fans of action RPGs (ARPGs) are eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated ladder reset for Diablo 2. For those who may be unfamiliar with the term, a ladder reset is an event where players' progress and statistics on a specific server are wiped clean, allowing them to start anew and experience the game in a fresh light.

For myself, the Diablo 2 Ladder Reset has been a source of great excitement and anticipation. However, recent personal setbacks have hindered my ability to work on Path of Exile, another ARPG that I am passionate about. As some may recall from my previous dev vlogs in 2020, my mother was diagnosed with cancer, which forced me to take a break from game development.

The Diablo 2 Ladder Reset has also been affected by the upcoming release of Diablo 4, which has pushed the window of opportunity back for a reset. Additionally, Blizzard's decision to release Diablo II: Resurrected (D2R) in closed and open beta a month ahead of schedule has added an extra layer of complexity to the situation.

Despite these challenges, I am thrilled to announce that our community server is gearing up for the upcoming ladder reset. Our goal is to increase build diversity and replayability while maintaining as much of the original Diablo 2 experience as possible. To achieve this, we will be implementing a series of modifications that combine the best ideas from both Diablo II and Path of Exile.

One of the key changes will be a revamped end game, which will feature more areas worth exploring, providing players with a greater sense of discovery and variety. The skill tree has also been rebalanced to make skills that were previously underpowered and rarely used now viable, allowing for a wider range of builds and playstyles.
